If preparing for pregnancy feels overwhelming, you’re not imagining it.

Most women are taught how not to get pregnant. Very few are taught what to do when they’re finally ready.

The months before conception give you time to understand your cycle, look more closely at your health, and address what deserves attention before pregnancy begins.

About 1 in 6 people experience infertility, yet so much of the fertility conversation still begins after you’ve started trying or once something goes wrong.

You shouldn't have to wait for a problem to get the guidance you deserve.

This is the Pretrimester

We talk about the three trimesters of pregnancy. But some of the most important preparation happens before the first. Your health before conception can influence fertility, pregnancy, and your future baby's development.

I coined the term pretrimester to give this often-overlooked phase a name: the intentional period before conception dedicated to preparing your mind, body, and environment for pregnancy.

Because preparing for a healthy pregnancy shouldn't begin with a positive test.

Knowing what matters changes how you prepare.

Preparing for pregnancy doesn't mean changing everything about your life. It means identifying the steps worth taking for your health and knowing where to begin.

Understand your cycle and fertility

Learn what your cycle can tell you, recognize patterns or symptoms worth discussing, and understand when to seek medical guidance.

Take a closer look at your health

Review your medical history, medications, supplements, and the nutrition and lifestyle factors that matter before conception.

Be aware of your environment

Look at household, personal care, and workplace exposures, and identify practical changes that may be worth making before pregnancy.

Prepare for the emotional side

Consider your expectations, relationships, and the support you may want as you prepare for pregnancy and motherhood.

The goal isn't perfection. It's knowing what matters for you, what can wait, and where to focus your efforts.

I wish I'd known sooner.

It took me six years to become a mom. Years of navigating endometriosis, fertility treatments, IVF, and pregnancy loss. I remember the uncertainty, the unanswered questions, and wondering whether there was something I should have known or asked before we ever started trying.

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy with two decades of experience in women's health, I've seen both sides of that gap in care.

That experience led me to write
PRETRIMESTER, bringing together research, clinical knowledge, and lived experience to help women prepare for pregnancy with the guidance I wish I'd had.
